Urgent Repair Program

The Urgent Repair Program is not a general home repair, renovation, or home improvement program. Assistance is limited to major, urgent conditions that pose an immediate threat to the health or safety of the occupants, or accessibility modifications necessary for the homeowner to safely remain in the home.

Examples of priority needs include:

• Failed or non-functioning heating systems creating unsafe living conditions
• Medically necessary cooling when supported by the circumstances of the household
• Serious roof failures, such as active leaking, structural deterioration, or unsafe conditions
• Accessibility modifications, such as a ramp or other modification necessary for safe entry, exit, or continued occupancy
• Other major conditions determined to pose an immediate threat to health or safety
  
  

What the program does NOT cover: Cosmetic improvements, remodeling, upgrades, or repairs simply because an item is old, worn, outdated, or unattractive are not the purpose of this program.

Repairs are functional—not cosmetic. Work will be performed only to the extent necessary to address the eligible urgent condition. The program does not require that every deficiency in the home be repaired or that the entire home be brought into compliance with current housing standards. All work actually completed through URP27, however, must meet or exceed applicable North Carolina Residential Building Code requirements.

I especially like that last paragraph for your website because it sets expectations before inspection: we’re fixing the qualifying problem safely; we’re not remodeling your house.
