Jones County is part of the North Carolina Global Transpark Authority which is a business center designed to support manufacturing, distribution, agribusiness, and transportation-related companies. A comprehensive planning effort has fully integrated air, rail, road and nearby sea transportation capabilities to serve the logistic requirements of industrial and distribution tenants and users of the Global TransPark Authority (GTPA).
Major highways serving Jones County are US 70, US 17 and NC 58, NC 41, and NC 258. US 70 runs across the northeastern part of Jones County. It is a direct route to the North Carolina port in Morehead City and the Atlantic Coast to the east. To the west it goes by Interstate 95 and to Raleigh. US 17 between New Bern and Jacksonville through Jones County is programmed to become a four-lane corridor. The four laning of 17 between Jacksonville and Maysville in Jones County is now underway. NC 41 runs east to west across Jones County and is only 44 miles to Interstate 40 and 90 miles to Interstate 95.
Airline service is available at New Bern, Kinston and Jacksonville for Jones County residents. All are under an hour’s drive. Charter and air freight services are offered by several carriers.
Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN)
Located twenty-three miles from Trenton, in New Bern, Coastal Carolina Regional Airport is 1/2 block off US 70 on Airport Road & approximately 1.5 miles east of the intersection of US 70 and US 17.
Kinston Regional Jetport (ISO)
Located twenty-four miles from Trenton at 2780 Jetport Road, Suite A in Kinston, NC. Second largest runway in Eastern US at 11,500ft.
Albert J. Ellis Airport (OAJ)
Located thirty-three miles from Trenton in Jacksonville, NC.
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
Located ninety-eight miles from Trenton in the heart of the Research Triangle Region.
Jones County is close to two deep water NC Ports.
Morehead City
Breakbulk and bulk facility located 58 miles away with a channel depth of 45 feet, one of the deepest on the United States East Coast. Only four miles from the Atlantic Ocean and within 700 miles of more than 70% of the US industrial base, with rail service provided by Norfolk Southern Railway.
Wilmington
Terminal facilities serving container, bulk, breakbulk, and ro-ro operations located 87 miles away with a channel depth of 42 feet. Situated 26 miles from the open sea on the Cape Fear River, The Port of Wilmington offers one million sq. ft. of prime covered and sprinklered storage ans seven container cranes. CSX Transportation provides intermodal rail service, boxcar, tanker and general cargo services.
Freight service is provided by Southern Railway, a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corporation, in New Bern (a thirty minute drive from Jones County). Freight service is also available in Kinston (30 minutes away). Piggyback service can be secured in Rocky Mount, NC.
Jones County is served by nine (9) certified freight carriers with terminals in New Bern, Kinston and Jacksonville.
The mission of CARTS is to provide transportation services, within its capabilities, to the general public with special emphasis on the provision of such services to the elderly and/or handicapped residents of Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties.
