If you need to make a report of child abuse or neglect please call our emergency number, if it is after hours.

Hawkins v. Cohen (English)
Hawkins v. Cohen is a federal lawsuit filed in 2017 on behalf of Medicaid beneficiaries in North Carolina. The case concerns improper terminations of Medicaid Benefits. Click on this link for more information.

Programs

Your Department of Social Services offers and administers a variety of programs to help individuals who are in need. The programs we offer are as followed:

Adult Services
Programs and services to help elderly people continue living in their own homes.

Children’s Services
Investigates child abuse and neglect, works to preserve or restore family stability, and administers foster care and adoptions. Assistance with child care is also available to families who meet the income guidelines.

Child Care (Daycare)
The Child Care Subsidy program uses state and federal funds to provide subsidized child care services to eligible families.

Child Support
Locates absent parents, establishes paternity and enforces child support payments.

Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP & CIP)
Helps low-income families pay utility expenses.

Food and Nutrition Services (Food Stamps)
Helps low-income people buy the food they need to remain healthy.

Work First Family Assistance
Provides temporary monthly cash assistance to needy families.

Medicaid
Determines if people are eligible for Medical Assistance (Medicaid or North Carolina Health Choice).

Medicare SHIIP Counseling
The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) helps Medicare beneficiaries better understand their Medicare coverage options and benefits. 

Transportation
Provides transport to medical facility for low-income families.
