Congregate Meals

Jones County Senior Services offers hot nutritious meals that meets 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirements of our senior adults at three different locations – Trenton, Pollocksville and Comfort. All three sites serve meals Monday through Friday. Anyone aged 60 or older is encouraged to sign up to participate.

Home Delivered Meals

Home delivered meals are available for Jones County residents who are:

• Homebound
• Cannot prepare meals for the themselves
• Does not have anyone living in the home who can prepare meals for them during lunchtime

Persons who are thought to be eligible for this service should be referred to the Jones County Senior Center. An assessment will be performed by a Senior Center Staff member to see if the person meets the requirements.

Activities

In addition to meals, each site offers a variety of activities and programs for its participants such as:

• Nutrition Education
• Arts/Craft and
• Painting Classes
• Adult Basic
• Education Classes
• Exercise
• Day excursions
• Assistance with Diabetic Supplies
• Health Screenings i.e. Blood Pressure and Glucose
• Senior Games
• Annual Senior Health Fair
• Medicare assistance through SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program)
• Special events i.e. quarterly birthday parties, Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner and         Easter egg hunt

Special programs are offered through partnerships with Jones County Cooperative Extension, Area Agency on Aging, Lenoir Community College, Home Health organizations, Jones County EMS, etc.

Transportation is available through CARTS (Craven Area Regional Transit System).

Medicare SHIIP Counselor – Available year-round.  Open enrollment October 15- December 7 annually.
