VISION: Our vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone has access to diverse parks, facilities, and programs. We aim to foster a culture of wellness, environmental stewardship, and social connection, enriching the quality of life for all. Through innovative planning, community engagement, and a strong commitment to excellence, we aim to lead recreational and wellness services, ensuring that our parks, facilities, and programs reflect the evolving needs and aspirations of our community.
MISSION: To provide Recreational and Wellness opportunities for Jones County Residents that advance physical well-being, encourage personal growth, create social interaction, and build a strong sense of community.
Jones County Parks and Recreation works to provide recreational programs and opportunities for ages preschool through adults. The goals of our recreational sports programs are to provide fundamental sports skills, encourage fitness and activity, promote good self-esteem, and to provide mentorship and fun for youth and adults. Jones County Parks and Recreation works to promote and encourage participation for all of Jones County’s towns and communities.
National studies show that most youth get less than one hour per day of physical exercise. They also show that 40% of youth ages 13-16 are clinically obese. But youth that participate in sports have a healthier weight, earn higher grades, and are more likely to attend college. We strive to encourage participation that will promote physical fitness and provide positive self-awareness for our youth.
Our main source of marketing for new programs is fliers sent home through the public schools, social media posts, and banners/signs that will be displayed at major town intersections as reminders for new registrations. We will also promote programs and services offered by our Senior Services Department and County Library System.
Please join our Jones County NC Recreation Facebook Page for upcoming programs and announcements.

Youth Basketball (7-12) (as of Jan.18)
We are excited to announce team basketball registration for practices in the Maysville, Comfort, and Trenton areas! Weekly practices began on Monday, November 18th, at the Jones Senior Harry Brown Gym and Maysville Elementary School Gym, with Saturday games starting in early January at West Craven High School Gym. Coaches will focus on teaching fundamentals and skills, making it an excellent opportunity for new players, and no cuts will be made—every registered player will have a chance to participate. The deadline to register your player is Friday, December 13th, so don’t miss this chance to join the fun and excitement this season!
Basketball (13-14)
We are taking players for an opportunity to enter a 13-14 year old team in the Kinston Rec. League. It is open to boys and girls. This team will have weekly, Jones Co. practices at the Harry Brown Gym, and play games starting in January with Kinston Rec. They usually schedule games Mon-Thurs, 7pm and 8pm at Fairfield, Holloway, Frink, Southwood, Moss Hill, and Pink Hill. The Player Registration Fee for this league will be the same, $30 with Jones Co. Rec, and that will cover the kids jersey cost as well. We are currently looking for a Coach to lead this group for games in Jan.
Deadline to participate in practices and let Rec Staff know your player will participate is Wed, Dec. 11th.
