Mission Statement

To fulfill President Lincoln’s promises “To care for him who shall have born the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are veterans here in Jones County.

Our Purpose

To provide Jones County Veterans access to Federal, State, and County benefits and entitlements based on their service in the United States Armed Forces and auxiliary services. Federal benefits include, but are not limited to, assistance with claims to service-connected diseases or disabilities incurred by active military service, apply for pension, vocational rehabilitation, education, VA insurance, VA home loan certificates, health care from Veteran Affairs Medical Centers and Substance Abuse Treatment Centers, and national cemeteries.

State benefits include, but are not limited to, scholarships for the children of disabled or deceased NC veterans, special hunting and fishing license, special license plates, handicapped parking privileges, and property tax relief provided to qualified veterans.

There are three state veterans cemeteries available and a state veterans nursing home in Kinston, NC. Free representation for claims at the VA Regional Office and Board of Veteran Appeals is available from state veterans service officers.

County benefits include representation by a county veterans service officer for filing, reopening, or appealing claims, transportation to VAMC’s in NC, and property tax relief for qualified veterans.

Military retirees and their dependents are assisted with Tricare claims and applying for military ID cards.

Survivor’s are assisted with applying for accrued benefits from the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs, Survivor’s Benefits Plan, VA Survivor’s Pension, burial flag, burial allowance, government marker, or VA insurance.

Jones County Veterans Service Office is available to provide a Presentation of VA benefits to interested groups.
